Want to know more about our facilitators? We have asked each of the facilitators to tell us about themselves, their work background, how long they have been a facilitator etc.
I live in the beautiful Bega Valley on the far south coast of NSW and have three boys 25, 22 and 19. I have been nursing since 1975 and see it as a great profession.
I trained and registered as a Psychiatric Nurse in 1970 in Newcastle NSW and worked as a charge nurse in a variety of wards including a Psychogeriatric unit. I worked in the State Psychiatric System until 1983 and then in private psychiatry until 1989. I moved to Byron Bay and was the after hours crisis nurse for the Byron shire for 6 years and also a Private Community Nurse with Department of Veteran Affairs Clients. In 1998 I commenced work with Byron Shire Respite Service Inc. and was easily able to transfer my skills to working with people with dementia and challenging behaviours.

I’m married with two daughters. I have been nursing since leaving school in 1980, when I left the Shoalhaven area for the big smoke of Sydney. Now reside on the Gold Coast but work in the border town of Tweed Heads. I am a JP and active member of Toastmasters International.
My family and I moved to the Far North Coast from Port Macquarie in order for me to take up my position with Tweed/Byron Group. We had lived in Port Macquarie for 20 years, having moved there when it was a much smaller town. We are now starting over in Pottsville, once again a small town with that sought after little village feel. I think there is a bit of country girl in me, as long as I live on the coast!
I am a busy active outdoor-loving person- I like to exercise and cycle, train, swim or do yoga every day. I am an outdoor leader for Girl Guides, and teach girls to kayak, abseil and camp on a regular basis. I have 3 children- my eldest daughter has just announced her engagement, and my ‘baby’ is turning 21 in December. I would like a few more hours in every week- to try and fit everything in! I also enjoy watching a movie or reading a book- and have found that listening to audio books in the car helps me fit reading in and reduce travel stress! As my parents and mother-in-law age, I am taking on more of a caring role and life is very busy.
It’s great living on the Central Coast with it’s beautiful beaches, and bays around the lakes. When I’m not at work or accompanying one of our four kids to various events I enjoy being in the water, or on it boating and fishing.
