Dementia Care Competency and Training Network

eLearning

Since 2007, the Dementia Care Competency & Training Network has delivered high quality dementia care training to over 3000 clinicians across NSW.

We currently offer Dementia training in four fully facilitated courses. A detailed overview is available for each course by clicking on it's link below

All courses are facilitated by Clinicians with an advanced knowledge in dementia and you are fully supported in the learning environment.  Participants quickly adapt to the learning environment as it is easy to navigate and consistent.

The courses encompass discussion forums, real time online chats, quizzes and self-directed lessons. For more information contact us now

Competencies

Our program now includes a method for clinicians to evaluate and establish clinical dementia care competencies.

The program incorporates the recently completed cross-setting, inter-disciplinary Dementia Care Competency Framework, developed by NSW Health, The University of Wollongong and Dementia Collaborative Research Centres. Ten Clinical Competencies and 40 Domains of Practice have been established to evaluate and inform dementia care professional development.

Clinicians are able to assess their competency from essential, enhanced and expert levels of service delivery. The program provides an accredited self-assessment supported by mentors to inform and support the continuum of education for clinicians, whilst providing Health Managers with a tool for assessing the competency of their workforce.

Knowledge Transfer

We have partnered with the UNSW Dementia Collaboration Research Centre (DCRC) Knowledge Translation Team to evaluate our effectiveness in providing a blended / facilitated model of education, that is a core component of the program to the patients bedside.

A critical part of the program is the delivery of a continuum of education and support through ongoing collaboration with peers and mentors and by enabling timely access to current dementia care research and information.

Our online library facilitates the sharing of a portfolio of information that is evidenced based and has a proven track record in improving the acute care experience of the person with dementia and delirium. Clinicians have a central point of access that provides resources required to facilitate clinical redesign in the delivery of the best possible person-centered dementia care.
